Editorial Policy
संपादकीय नीति — हम खबर कैसे चुनते, जांचते और सुधारते हैं।
Last updated: 3 November 2026
This policy describes how NST Bihar gathers, checks, publishes and corrects news. It applies to everything we publish on nstbihar.in and on our social media channels.
1. Accuracy and verification
- We publish what we can verify. Facts are checked with at least one reliable source — an official record, a named person with first-hand knowledge, or our own reporter on the spot.
- When a story is developing and some details are not yet confirmed, we say so and update the story as facts are confirmed.
- Photos and videos are checked for where and when they were taken before use. Viral or forwarded material is not published as fact without verification.
2. Fairness and independence
- We seek the response of people and organisations who are criticised or accused in a story, and report it when we receive it.
- News is kept separate from opinion. Opinion and analysis pieces are labelled as such.
- Advertisers, sponsors and owners do not decide what we report. Paid or sponsored content is clearly marked.
3. Sources
We name our sources wherever possible. Anonymity is given only when a source faces real risk and the information is important and cannot be obtained otherwise; the editor knows the identity of every anonymous source.
4. Sensitive subjects
In line with Indian law and the Norms of Journalistic Conduct of the Press Council of India, we do not identify victims of sexual offences or children in conflict with the law, we report on suicide responsibly, and we avoid content that could provoke communal tension or violence.
5. Corrections policy
- When we get something wrong we correct it promptly and openly.
- A significant correction is noted at the end of the article, saying what was changed. Minor spelling or style fixes may be made without a note.
- To report an error, write to us through Contact Us with the article link. Formal complaints follow the Grievance Redressal process.
6. Ownership and responsibility
- NST Bihar follows the Code of Ethics for digital news publishers under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
